Depression a state everyone gets in to time after time. Everyone gets depressed sometimes, however, year 2020 presented itself different ball game. It was a challenging period when all of us found ourselves on the same boat notwithstanding status no matter and location.Outside this boat outside is a raging storm of the COVID-19 pandemic raging on the outside.

Nevertheless, the kind of depression we are talking about here has nothing to do with just feeling depressed for a few hours or a few days. We are also no referring to times when you feel down and fed up with things for a few hours or a few days.

The kind of depression I want to talk about today is the depression whereby you persistently feel sad. The kind in which you feel you have no interest in any activity for long persistent periods of times. Also, in the extreme cases you even feel worthless and feel that there is no need for living anymore.

Do you know that I suffered depression for five years? Inauspiciously for me, I did not know I was suffering under depression. Although, I can remember telling myself I was strong enough to go through it.

Sometimes you might tell yourself that you are strong enough to go through what you are going through, but there is just one reason I have decided to put this here out here.

If you are out there and you do not know whether you are depressed or not. Just for the sake of that one person who is like me who does not know may be going through depressionwithout knowing it.

Here are some of the symptoms of depression. Besides, if you have any of this, it might be important for you to take notice.

1. if you continuously have feelings of sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness.
2. if you persistently have angry outbursts, irritability, and frustration over small matters.
3. if you have lost of interests or pleasure in normal activities for long periods of time
4. if you have sleep disturbances such as insomnia or sleeping for too long
5. if you experience tiredness or lack of energy all the time whereby it takes lots of energy and effort to perform little tasks.
6. if you are eating have reduced appetite whereby you hardly eat. On the other hand,you have increased craving or food and you eating too much.
7. if you are anxious and agitated all the time most for long periods of time thus leading to a state of restlessness.
8. if you have slow thinking
9. if you have slowed speaking and slowed body movement

Experiencing these symptoms listed above could mean that you are depressed. The root cause to depression can be psychological or chemical substances. Persistent depression means you are not able to cope with the root cause or you are not able to get to the root cause by yourself. Therefore, you need help, and you do not have to feel shy that you are depressed or to admit that you are.

Look for safe space, look for appropriate help. When I was depressed, I did not know I was depressed, but I had some of those symptoms and I kept on telling myself I’ll overcome them. This persisted for, the first year, one year became two, it entered the third year and eventually I stayed in that pit for five years.

Now, you do not need to go through all anymore. In getting help, you can look for safe space.You do not need to feel guilty or feel that you are being weak. Go to an experienced help giver you trust and respect.

In conclusion, I invite you to take a moment to go through the symptoms of depressionoutlined above and peradventure, you have the following symptoms, you are extremely depressed, and you need to see a medical expert immediately before it is too late.
